Vice President for Economic Cluster and First Deputy Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Dr. Bejamin Bol Mel, has pledged his commitment to ensuring South Sudan does not return to war.

“For us to be successful, we must support the implementation of His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s vision, especially to never take our country back to war,” Bol stated.

Bol remarked after taking the oath at SPLM headquarters in Juba on Thursday as the First Deputy Chairperson.

He urged South Sudanese to support the “No Return to War” initiative promised by President Kiir, emphasizing the need for reconciliation and peace.

Without peace and security, Bol noted, development would be impossible, calling on all citizens to commit to peace and stability. He encouraged youth to abandon violence and focus their energy on fostering unity, which would lead to national progress.

Last month, the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) launched the “No Return to War” campaign to promote peaceful coexistence, stressing the importance of putting the pledge into action.

The activist’s emphasis on the 2018 peace agreement implementation challenges, including confrontations despite leaders’ repeated assurances, is a matter of grave concern. The campaign, Yakani urged the public to actively embrace, aimed to support peace efforts.

In a separate event, the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) reaffirmed its commitment to the 2018 peace agreement. Government spokesperson Michael Makuei Lueth reiterated President Kiir’s stance on peace.
