Deng William Kuir has been elected Chairperson of the Twic East Youth Association (TEYA) for the 2025–2027 term, following a closely contested and peaceful election in Juba on Sunday.
The election drew high voter turnout from all payams of Twic East County.
Kuir, the flagbearer of the Twic East Forward (TEF) camp, emerged victorious on his third attempt at the position.
He garnered 1,511 of the 3,656 votes, making him the winner out of the four contestants.
The vote was widely admired by observers for its transparency, peaceful conduct, and youth participation.
“This victory belongs to the young people of Twic East who believe in progress and inclusion,” Kuir was quoted by national media in his post-election remarks to jubilant supporters.
His campaign, which emphasized youth empowerment, unity, and developmental leadership, resonated strongly with the electorate.
Supporters say his win reflects growing demand for inclusive and accountable youth leadership.
Kuir is expected to assume office later this month, with immediate focus on strengthening community cohesion, mobilizing youth for peace and development, and enhancing the association’s role in policy advocacy.
The TEYA election has been hailed as a model for organized youth engagement and democratic participation in South Sudan’s community associations.
