Government forces under the South Sudan Peoples Defense Forces (SSPDF) have reportedly carried out aerial bombardments in southeastern Panyijiar early Monday morning.
Local sources say military aircraft targeted suspected opposition positions shortly after dawn, sending shockwaves across the region.
The motive behind the offensive is still unclear, but it follows recent clashes and increased movement of armed groups near county borders. Civilians are fleeing affected villages as explosions continue to rock the lowlands.
