CDF issues ultimatum to armed youth in Warrap, Jonglei

South Sudan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Dr. Paul Nang Majok, has issued a stern ultimatum directing armed youth in Warrap and Jonglei States to immediately disarm and vacate contested areas or face punitive military action.

In a set of directives released from the SSPDF General Headquarters in Bilpam, the army chief ordered armed civilians in Tonj East County of Warrap State to return to their respective Payams with their livestock and cease unnecessary movements with guns.

He instructed that all firearms be handed over to local authorities without delay.

Gen. Majok also gave a 48-hour ultimatum to individuals and groups occupying Buooth-Agany fishing site in Twic East County, Jonglei State, to evacuate the area and return to their villages.

The SSPDF will deploy forces to secure the site once it is cleared to prevent further clashes between rival clans.

The directives, announced by SSPDF Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, warned that anyone defying the orders would face “punitive measures.”

The move follows renewed local tensions and armed confrontations in parts of Warrap and Jonglei over land and resources.
