Police in Warrap State have arrested three minors in connection with the death of a 19-year-old man whose body was found in a swamp between Athiim and Panyokdit villages.
The deceased has been identified as Liai Manyang Liai. According to police, his family alerted authorities after reporting that three children had been seen chasing him shortly before his body was discovered.
Lt. Col. Akech Deng Angok, the Inspector of Police in Panyok Payam, said the suspects include two girls aged 15 and 14, and a 12-year-old boy.
“After the case was opened, two children were arrested first. During the investigation, a 12-year-old boy was also implicated, bringing the total number of suspects to three,” Angok said.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and that officers are waiting for additional witnesses and evidence from the deceased’s family before determining the next legal steps.
Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the incident or a possible motive for the killing.
The case has drawn attention because all three suspects are minors. Police say they will continue gathering evidence before forwarding the matter for prosecution in accordance with South Sudanese law.
