Eastern Equatoria State Governor Gen. Louis Lobong Lojore has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner of Torit County, Hon. Lokang Charles Italian, and appointed a caretaker to take over the administration of the county with immediate effect.
The decision was announced through Gubernatorial Decree No. 13/2026, signed on 15 July 2026.
The decree states that the suspension was made under the powers vested in the Governor by Republican Decree No. 51/2020 and Article 99(2)(j) of the Transitional Constitution of Eastern Equatoria State, 2011.
In a separate Gubernatorial Decree No. 14/2026, issued on the same day, Governor Lobong appointed Hon. Eddy William Ponsiano Boyle as the Caretaker Commissioner of Torit County.
The caretaker commissioner is expected to oversee the county’s day-to-day administration until a substantive commissioner is appointed or further directives are issued by the state government.
Both decrees took effect immediately upon the Governor’s signature.
The state government has not publicly explained the reasons for the indefinite suspension of Hon. Lokang Charles Italian, and no timeline has been given on whether investigations or administrative proceedings are underway.
The leadership changes come as state authorities continue efforts to strengthen governance and public administration across Eastern Equatoria.
However, in the absence of an official explanation, it remains unclear what prompted the Governor’s decision.
No immediate statement has been issued by the suspended commissioner regarding the suspension.
