A group of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Youth League members in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has called for the removal of the state Youth League chairperson, Andrea Deng Wieu, accusing him of violating the party ’s constitution and failing to properly involve other leaders in the management of the youth wing.
The 25 members, represented by Aguer Koor, said the demand for the chairperson’s removal follows what they described as a series of administrative and constitutional violations within the state SPLM Youth League.
Speaking to the media, Koor alleged that Andrea Deng Wieu had failed to convene regular meetings with members of the state executive and county Youth League chairpersons, limiting consultation and participation in the affairs of the organization.
“This call for the removal of Comrade Andrea from his position came as a result of gross violations of our constitution,” Koor alleged.
He said the members were particularly concerned about what they described as a lack of consultation in the appointment and reappointment of members of the Youth League secretariat.
According to Koor, such decisions should involve the relevant leadership structures of the organization and should be conducted in accordance with the SPLM Youth League Constitution.
“Chapter 3, Article 8, clauses 8.3 and 8.7 of the SPLM Youth League Constitution 2017, as amended, [require the leadership to carry out its responsibilities in accordance with the constitution], but Comrade Andrea Deng is unable to bring people together in respect of political diversity,” Koor alleged.
The group also raised concerns over the management of financial affairs within the state Youth League.
Koor alleged that Andrea Deng Wieu was performing the functions of both chairperson and finance secretary, which he claimed had affected the ability of the finance office to carry out its responsibilities independently.
“He is doubling as a chair and a finance secretary at the same time. There are no financial records in the Youth League office simply because the finance secretary was not allowed to function,” Koor claimed.
The allegation, if established, could raise questions about the separation of responsibilities within the organization and the maintenance of proper financial records. However, the group did not provide financial documents or other evidence publicly to substantiate the claims.
The members calling for the chairperson’s removal said they want the relevant SPLM leadership structures to intervene and address what they described as growing disagreements within the state Youth League.
They maintained that their concerns were not aimed at creating divisions within the SPLM but at ensuring that the Youth League operates according to its constitution and that its leadership structures remain functional.
The group is also calling for greater consultation among Youth League leaders at the state and county levels, saying that political differences should be managed through dialogue and established party structures.
Koor urged the relevant SPLM authorities to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action if violations of the constitution are established.
The dispute comes at a time when the SPLM Youth League remains an important mobilizing structure within the ruling party, particularly in organizing young people and supporting the party’s activities at state and county levels.
The Youth League leadership in Northern Bahr el Ghazal is expected to play a role in coordinating youth activities, mobilization and political engagement across the state.
However, disagreements over leadership, appointments, consultation and financial administration can create tensions within political organizations when members believe established procedures are not being followed.
Efforts to reach Andrea Deng Wieu for a response to the allegations were unsuccessful.
He was not available to comment on the accusations concerning the alleged failure to convene meetings, appointments within the secretariat, or the management of financial responsibilities.
The allegations therefore remain claims made by the group of Youth League members calling for his removal, pending a response from Andrea Deng Wieu or an independent determination by the relevant SPLM authorities.
The members said they would continue to pursue the matter through the appropriate party channels and called on the SPLM leadership to address their concerns in accordance with the Youth League constitution.
They also appealed to Youth League members to remain committed to dialogue and the party’s internal mechanisms for resolving leadership disputes.
