President Salva Kiir Mayardit has dismissed Upper Nile State Governor Jacob Dollar Ruot and reappointed former governor James Koang Chol,
The decision, announced in a presidential decree, sees Koang take over a position he previously held before being replaced by Dollar in last year’s reshuffle
No official reasons have been given for the reshuffle.
Until his latest reappointment, Koang had been serving as Deputy Minister of Defence, a role he held following his removal as governor.
His return to Upper Nile now marks a shift back from the national security docket to state-level leadership.
Koang’s reinstatement effectively reverses the earlier decision, placing him once again at the helm of Upper Nile, a region critical to South Sudan’s oil production and long affected by insecurity and political tensions.
