Former Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) member Boutros Monani Magaya has picked a nomination form to contest for a parliamentary seat representing Geographical Constituency No. 3 in Maridi County.
Boutros is expected to face other aspirants, including Martin Modir Juma Ngorowu, in the forthcoming Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) primaries, which will determine the party’s candidate for the constituency ahead of the planned December 22 general elections.
Speaking after the nomination process at the SPLM National Secretariat, Boutros said his bid would focus on improving public services and strengthening oversight of government institutions.
He argued that residents need a government that delivers essential services after decades of conflict, saying the country should now focus on improving the lives of its people.
Boutros also expressed his intention to support President Salva Kiir, while pledging to represent the interests of Maridi residents in parliament.
“We are now ready to go on the ground and talk to the people,” he said, following the nomination process.
His entry adds to the contest for the SPLM ticket in Maridi’s Constituency No. 3, with party primaries expected to determine who will carry the ruling party’s flag in the parliamentary race.
The nomination process comes as political aspirants prepare for the planned December elections, although Boutros’s reported collection of the form does not guarantee him the party’s nomination.
