President Salva Kiir Mayardit has removed Joseph Malek Arop as Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and appointed a replacement.

In a presidential decree read on the state broadcaster SSBC, President Kiir appointed Molana Dr William Othon Awer as the new Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Dr Awer replaces Mr Arop, who has been relieved of the position with immediate effect, according to the decree.

The presidential decree did not give a reason for Mr Arop’s removal or provide further details about the new appointment.

Dr Awer will now serve as the deputy to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, taking up the role at a time when the ministry is involved in legal and constitutional matters linked to South Sudan’s political transition.

The latest appointment is part of a series of changes to government positions made by President Kiir through presidential decrees.
