The Mogos and Jie communities have signed a peace agreement aimed at ending revenge killings and cattle raids in Kapoeta East County, Eastern Equatoria State.
The agreement was reached during a peace dialogue chaired by Governor Louis Lobong Lojore, bringing together elders, chiefs, youth representatives and traditional leaders from Lotuba/Lotiyan and Naliwatom bomas.
Under the deal, both communities agreed to reopen roads to restore the free movement of people and goods, rebuild peaceful relations, and resolve future disputes through dialogue instead of violence.
They also pledged not to retaliate over the killing of former Kapoeta East County Commissioner Stephen Lowasio, allowing the government to complete the ongoing judicial process.
Governor Lobong welcomed the agreement, urging residents to uphold the rule of law, reject violence and support peaceful coexistence.
He said lasting peace would improve security, promote development and strengthen unity across Eastern Equatoria State.
