MTN South Sudan has opened a new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hub in Rumbek, aimed at expanding access to digital technology and equipping young people with skills for the growing digital economy.
The hub will provide youth with access to computers, high-speed internet and digital learning resources, creating opportunities for skills development, education, entrepreneurship and innovation.
Speaking at the launch, National Minister of Information, Communication and Technology Ateng Wek Ateny commended MTN for supporting communities through its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
“When you look at all the networks we have in the country, it’s only MTN that is giving back to the communities of South Sudan. We should therefore appreciate them for that,” Ateny said.
The minister urged young people in Rumbek to make full use of the facility and improve their digital skills.
MTN South Sudan Chief Executive Officer Mapula Bodibe said the investment was intended to promote connectivity, digital inclusion, education and community empowerment.
“MTN believes that everyone deserves to benefit from a modern connected world. By investing in this hub, we are investing in connectivity, digital inclusion, education and community empowerment,” Bodibe said.
She encouraged young people to use the facility to develop their skills and connect with opportunities beyond South Sudan.
The opening of the Rumbek ICT Hub forms part of MTN South Sudan’s efforts to expand digital access beyond the capital and help bridge the digital divide by bringing technology and skills development closer to communities across the country.
The facility is expected to serve as a centre for digital learning, innovation and youth empowerment in Lakes State.
