NEC presents voter registration materials to President Kiir

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has presented the official voter registration book and other electoral materials to President Salva Kiir Mayardit as preparations continue for South Sudan’s planned December 2026 general elections.

NEC Chairperson Gabriel Bol Deng described the presentation as an important milestone in the electoral process, saying voter registration is central to establishing the foundation for the elections.

The materials are expected to be used in registering eligible voters across South Sudan’s 10 states and three administrative areas.

The registration book includes spaces for voter details and numbered voter registration cards, alongside information identifying registration areas and centres.

The presentation comes as the NEC moves toward the start of nationwide voter registration.

The Commission has previously said registration had not yet begun and that the dates and registration centres would be announced through its official channels.

The NEC has also been training State High Elections Committees and officials from the three administrative areas on voter registration procedures ahead of the exercise.

South Sudan is scheduled to hold general elections on 22 December 2026, with the NEC saying it remains committed to preparing for the polls in line with its legal mandate.

The elections would come after years of transitional arrangements and repeated extensions of the country’s political transition since independence in 2011.
