Rabi Mujung declares bid for Central Equatoria governorship

Former Central Equatoria State Governor Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel has declared his candidacy for the governorship of Central Equatoria State.

Mujung, who served as governor for less than five months in 2025 before being removed from office, is seeking to return to the state’s top leadership position as the country prepares for the December 2026 elections.

Public records show that he served from June to November 2025.

His supporters describe him as a unifying figure capable of bringing together communities across Central Equatoria’s counties and administrative areas.

They also point to his brief tenure as governor as evidence of his leadership approach, arguing that his experience in state leadership has prepared him for another gubernatorial bid.

Mujung’s declaration comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the upcoming elections, with several political figures expected to express interest in state-level positions.

During his previous tenure, Mujung publicly emphasised unity, social cohesion, service delivery and development across Central Equatoria.

The former governor was appointed to lead Central Equatoria in June 2025, replacing Augustino Jadalla Wani, but was removed from office in November of the same year, when President Salva Kiir reinstated Emmanuel Adil Anthony.

Mujung’s latest declaration sets the stage for a renewed contest for the leadership of Central Equatoria, with voters expected to weigh candidates’ records, programmes and visions for the state.
