The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has opened its nomination process for aspirants seeking to contest in South Sudan’s planned December 22, 2026 general elections.
The ruling party has set October 5 to 9 as the official period for aspirants to collect nomination forms from the SPLM Secretariat at its headquarters in Juba.
SPLM Secretary General Dr. Akol Paul Kordit said the exercise is open to candidates seeking nomination for national parliamentary seats, gubernatorial positions and chief administrator positions in the three administrative areas of Abyei, Greater Pibor and Ruweng.
Interested aspirants have been directed to visit the party headquarters during the five-day period to obtain the relevant nomination forms.
The announcement comes as political parties and electoral institutions intensify preparations for the planned December elections, with nomination and candidate-selection processes expected to form part of the wider preparations for the polls.
The December 22 elections are expected to cover national and sub-national positions as South Sudan continues preparations for the electoral process.
