The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has told its election aspirants to return to their constituencies and mobilize grassroots support before seeking party tickets.
Speaking at an SPLM fundraising event attended by members of the business community, SPLM Secretary-General Cde. Dr. Akol Paul Koordit said the party would no longer simply endorse candidates without strong connections to the people they seek to represent.
“We have urged our party members to return to their respective constituencies and organize themselves,” Akol Paul said.
He added: “We are not going to endorse candidates who are not connected to their people.”
The SPLM Secretary-General said the party had taken note of recent public calls urging it to avoid giving tickets to members who are not locally connected to their constituencies.
His remarks signal a stronger emphasis on grassroots mobilization as the SPLM prepares for the upcoming elections.
