The South Sudan women’s national football team will officially begin preparations for the CECAFA 2025 Women’s Senior Championship, set to take place later this year in Tanzania.

Head coach Simon James Yor announced a 30-player provisional squad on Wednesday, signaling the start of the team’s training camp.

The tournament, organized by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), will see some of the region’s top women’s national teams competing.

For South Sudan, this presents another opportunity to build on their recent strides in women’s football development and to showcase the nation’s growing talent on the continental stage.

The training camp also provides an opportunity for fringe players to prove themselves and earn a place in the final tournament squad.

South Sudan has made remarkable progress in recent years in promoting women’s football, with increasing support from the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), local clubs, and grassroots programs.

The Bright Starlets’ participation in CECAFA is seen as a critical step in gaining competitive experience and exposure at the regional level.

The final squad for the CECAFA tournament will be announced closer to the competition start date, following internal evaluations and friendly matches planned during the training period.
