Aspirants seeking to lead the Ciec Community Association will be required to pay SSP 22 million to contest for the position of Chairperson, after the association’s Independent Electoral Committee (IEC) unveiled nomination fees and officially launched the electoral process ahead of the community’s upcoming leadership elections.
In an announcement issued by the committee, the SSP 22 million fee was set as the highest nomination charge among all elective positions, reflecting the significance of the association’s top leadership office.
Under the electoral guidelines, candidates vying for the position of Secretary General will pay a nomination fee of SSP 19 million, while those seeking election as Finance Secretary will pay SSP 12 million.
Community members wishing to participate in the election as voters will be required to pay a voter registration fee of SSP 20,000.
The announcement was made by Peter Mahal Dhieu Akat, Chairperson of the Ciec Community Association Independent Electoral Committee, together with Adv. Tong Kot Kuocuin, Secretary General of the Ciec Community Association, who confirmed that the committee has formally begun implementing the election roadmap.
According to the committee, voter registration has officially opened and will be conducted at Nyakuren Center, where eligible members of the Ciec community are expected to register before the exercise closes.
The electoral body also announced that 25 August is the deadline for aspiring candidates to submit their nomination applications, urging all contestants to complete the process within the stipulated period.
“The Independent Electoral Committee has officially commenced its electoral operations. Voter registration will be conducted at Nyakuren Center, while aspiring candidates have until 25 August to submit their nomination applications,” the committee said in its statement.
The committee appealed to all eligible community members to take part in the electoral process by registering as voters and encouraged prospective candidates to comply fully with the electoral regulations and timelines.
It said adherence to the established procedures would help guarantee a peaceful, transparent and credible election capable of strengthening democratic governance within the Ciec Community Association.
The commencement of the electoral process marks the beginning of a new leadership contest for one of the community’s representative associations, with attention now expected to shift to potential candidates who will seek the support of registered members in the weeks leading to the vote.
