SPLM collects SSP 2.54 billion in nomination fees within a week eek

South Sudan’s ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has reportedly collected SSP 2.544 billion in nomination fees from 848 aspirants within a week, according to figures published by WuotPressMedia.

Each aspirant reportedly paid SSP 3 million for a nomination form to seek various party and elective positions ahead of the upcoming elections.

The total represents approximately $439,073, based on the reported dollar equivalent.

SPLM Secretary-General Akol Paul Koordit confirmed that the aspirants were seeking different positions across the country, according to the report.

The breakdown shows that 417 candidates are seeking constituency seats, while 161 are contesting through the Women’s List.

Another 144 are seeking governor and chief administrator positions, with 114 listed under the Party List.

Of the 848 aspirants, 639 are men and 209 are women, representing approximately 75% and 25% of the total, respectively.

The reported nomination fees provide an indication of the money generated through the party’s candidate selection process.

However, the SSP 2.544 billion figure is calculated from the reported number of forms and fee per form; an independently verified financial statement from the party was not available.

The nomination exercise comes as the SPLM and other political actors prepare for South Sudan’s planned elections, scheduled for 22 December 2026.

The SPLM, which has governed South Sudan since independence in 2011, is using its internal selection process to identify candidates for the forthcoming polls.

The number of aspirants seeking party positions and elective offices reflects the scale of participation in the party’s nomination exercise.
