The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has appointed several party members, including aspirants who recently lost constituency primaries, to oversee upcoming party elections in Equatoria and Abyei Administrative Area.
The appointments, announced on Sunday, include four chairpersons tasked with supervising party congresses and primary elections in their respective areas.
Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, who recently suffered defeat in the Eastern Equatoria constituency primaries, has been appointed to oversee the process in the state.
His appointment comes shortly after he lost the party contest to a fellow aspirant, marking a new political assignment for the former parliamentary aspirant.
Rebecca Joshua Okwaci, who also lost her recent constituency primary, has been assigned to oversee the primaries in Abyei Administrative Area.
Meanwhile, Asha Abass Akuei has been appointed to supervise the process in Central Equatoria State, while Deng Dau Deng Malek will oversee Western Equatoria State.
The appointments bring together both former contestants and party members who did not participate in the recent primary elections, placing some of the defeated aspirants in positions to supervise the next round of internal contests.
The move comes as the ruling party prepares for another round of internal elections, with the newly appointed officials expected to oversee the selection processes in their respective areas.
