Ayen Mijok Kiir has won the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) parliamentary primary for Panrieng Constituency No. 6 after securing 666 votes, defeating two other contenders in the party’s internal candidate selection process.
According to results shared with Hot in Juba, Ayen emerged ahead of his competitors, with Tiop Monyluak finishing second with 220 votes, while Isaac Jau Thonjok came third with 16 votes.
The results show that Ayen secured approximately 74 percent of the 902 votes reported, giving him a commanding lead over his opponents.
Ayen previously served as First Deputy Speaker of the Council of States, the upper chamber of South Sudan’s national legislature.
Her victory marks a significant step in his political journey as the SPLM continues its internal preparations for the planned general elections scheduled for December 2026.
The party primaries are intended to determine candidates who will represent the SPLM in constituencies across the country ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Ayen’s victory in Panrieng now positions her as the SPLM’s preferred candidate for Constituency No. 6, subject to the party’s final nomination and electoral procedures.
