President Salva Kiir Mayardit has removed long-serving Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro and appointed Ambassador Bol Wek Agoth as his replacement in a fresh change to South Sudan’s caretaker government.
The change was announced in a presidential decree on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, ending Lomuro’s latest stint in the ministry barely a month after he was reappointed under the caretaker administration.
Lomuro was first appointed Minister of Cabinet Affairs in July 2013 and remained a prominent figure in the government through successive political transitions.
His removal marks the end of a tenure spanning more than 13 years, although his service included changes in government arrangements and appointments.
His latest reappointment came on September 22, 2026, when South Sudan entered a caretaker governance period ahead of the planned December 22 general elections.
Ambassador Bol Wek Agoth now takes over the ministry, which plays a central role in coordinating government business and facilitating the work of the Council of Ministers.
The presidential decree did not, in the information available, provide a reason for Lomuro’s removal.
It also remains unclear whether he will be assigned another government role.
The appointment comes as South Sudan’s caretaker administration continues operating in the run-up to the scheduled elections.
