South Sudan’s health sector gets fresh leadership and renewed focus

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the newly appointed Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial, to address the critical challenges facing South Sudan’s health sector, emphasizing the urgent need for reform and improved service delivery. 

The directive was issued during Minister Sarah’s official swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, where President Kiir described her appointment as well-deserved.

He encouraged her to spearhead necessary reforms in the health sector while urging all South Sudanese to reject division and work toward fostering unity and peace. 

President Kiir stated, “The health sector is one of the most critical areas that require urgent attention. I urge the new minister to focus on improving healthcare services and ensuring that all South Sudanese have access to quality medical care.” 

Minister Sarah Cleto Rial expressed deep gratitude to the president for entrusting her with the role and pledged to work diligently to meet the expectations of the people.

She vowed to uphold transparency and accountability, promising a results-driven approach to strengthening the healthcare system. 

Following her recent appointment, some individuals, including government officials, stated that the move marked a pivotal step in South Sudan’s ongoing efforts to reinforce its health sector, ensuring that quality medical services are accessible to all citizens.
