A newborn baby has been rescued by community members after allegedly being abandoned in the bush in Hai Ngulawa, Mundri.
According to Amadi FM, concerned residents found the baby and quickly organised medical assistance, helping save the child’s life.
Mr Sabah, the in-charge of the maternity ward at Mundri Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC), confirmed to Amadi FM that the newborn is in good condition and is currently receiving medical care.
The Chairperson of Ngulawa A commended residents for their swift intervention, saying their actions helped save the baby’s life.
Health officials have urged mothers and young girls facing difficult circumstances to seek support from health workers, family members and other available support systems rather than abandon their children.
The incident has also raised concerns about teenage pregnancies, social stigma, limited access to reproductive health information and inadequate support for young mothers.
