Former Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin has lost the SPLM primaries for Constituency No. 9 in Uror County, Jonglei State, after being defeated by young politician Wany Lam Tuor.
Tuor secured 136 votes to win the party’s nomination for a seat in the National Legislative Assembly, while Benjamin received 92 votes.
Another contender, Tang Chatiem, finished third with 87 votes.
The results mark a setback for Benjamin, a veteran politician who has held senior positions in South Sudan’s government and has been a prominent figure in the country’s political landscape.
Despite his long political experience, Benjamin failed to secure enough votes to win the party’s nomination in the Uror constituency.
Tuor’s victory places him ahead of the two other contenders in the race for the SPLM ticket.
The outcome adds to the competitive nature of the ongoing SPLM primaries, as political figures seek party nominations ahead of the anticipated general elections.
Final Results:
- Wany Lam Tuor – 136 votes
- Barnaba Marial Benjamin – 92 votes
- Tang Chatiem – 87 votes
