The National Elections Commission (NEC) has delivered 13,706 voter registration books to two states and three administrative areas as preparations for South Sudan’s upcoming general elections gather pace.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NEC Chairperson Gabriel Bol Deng confirmed that the latest distribution targets Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Unity State, Greater Pibor Administrative Area, Ruweng Administrative Area and Abyei Administrative Area.
The commission said Northern Bahr el Ghazal received the largest allocation of 6,864 registration books, followed by Unity State with 3,300.
Greater Pibor Administrative Area received 1,397 books, while Ruweng Administrative Area was allocated 1,364.
Abyei Administrative Area received 781 registration books.
The latest distribution follows the initial handover of voter registration materials to Central Equatoria State on November 2.
The NEC said the distribution forms part of its preparations for the nationwide voter registration exercise and called on local authorities, civil society organisations, community leaders and media outlets to support public awareness and mobilisation efforts.
The commission particularly emphasised the need to ensure that women, young people, persons with disabilities and rural residents are reached and encouraged to participate in the electoral process.
Eligible citizens have been urged to monitor official NEC communication channels for announcements regarding registration schedules, procedures and requirements.
South Sudan is scheduled to hold its general elections on December 22, 2026, amid ongoing preparations by electoral authorities to facilitate the process.
